to a lot overboard drinking wise
that never stopped him
from his accomplishments
After GAZZARI'S was torn down
FRANK was a carpenter for the
Billboard, now Key Club and built
its revolving stage
our imported caretaker...

While it is very hard to talk about
Frank even years after his passing,
doing so bring fond memories of
the friendship Frank
GAVE TO THE ENTIRE scene
He gave so many BENEFITS
for people in the SCENE.
Always star studded
features to help someone,
and Frank only wanted
a six pack in return.
Of course I had known Frank a long time,
and I wanted to tape at the Variety Arts Center
THE DEAD BOYS, so I waited by the
dressing rooms to ask permission.
The dressing room door opens and there is
Frank who sees me and motions like an
old time hand movie camera and motioned
me inside to meet Stiv Bators, and the ok to tape.
Thank You once again Frank.
Stiv Bators called me from New York
while watching the copy of the gig
which he liked... he asking me if I liked the
DEAD BOYS or LORDS of the NEW CHURCH.
Great guy. Oh, I had taped the LORDS
at a benefit before by Frank at the Music Machine
English Frank hung out a lot at
The Cat and the Fiddle on Sunset
he partied with friends there
he got married there
then
we made plans for his benefit
when he was sick there
and later plans, there too...
Benefit after benefit to help friends...

I shot, at the Music Machine
are from a benefit Frank put
on for Keith Morris of the Circle Jerks

I must tell my story - the story of my buddy ENGLISH FRANK also known as in his birth name of FRANK KENNINGTON - He was a good friend of mine - And I recall that we met somewhere between April and September of 1982 - It was at one of my many gigs on the upstairs stage over in the corner at the well known CATHAY DE GRANDE club on Selma and McCadden in Hollywood - ENGLISH FRANK was there cheering me on - yelling out my stage name of HOLLYWOOD JOE - over and over until the crowd joined in on his admiration of me and my band - ENGLISH FRANK had a great way of promoting people that were in the entertainment business as I would later even more take notice of in the years to come - At one point in 1984 we formed a band called The HOOLIGANS from which drummer EL DUCE joined as well as my STING-LOOKING friend bass player from West Los Angeles named TIM PATRICK FLEIGEL -I had known TIM from when we both worked at The TROUBADOUR night club in West Hollywood - I called him MAGIC TIM -Tim and El Duce could play anything - We rehearsed at my guitar student WEB SLATE'S home(Greta Garbo's old place) on AMALFI DRIVE in Pacific Palisades - Then brought it over to PICO BOULEVARD to the MUSIC MACHINE - Here and there in Los Angeles we played - It was fun - ENGLISH FRANK wrote some great rock and roll songs that I feel were very worthy of airplay - ENGLISH FRANK was a great man - a great leader - a wonderful man in every way - I only wish that I had spent more time with him as we aged BUT as life went on it took us to different locations - I will always remember ENGLISH FRANK KENNINGTON - Joe Nania a.k.a. Hollywood Joe
